"Playground Plea"

54 comments:

  1. The video showed of what i thought was the boy's point of view and how he never gets picked on teams just to have fun on the playground. it shows the boy's sadness, and i think it's important to see the way some kids feel when they are picked last or not at all.

  2. I didn't really get the point of this video. Why wouldn't the kids choose the other kid for their team? Why was he so upset? Why are they picking teams in the first place? Way more questions than answers. What did the video have to do with the ESL program? Do the other kids just not like him? This happens a lot in Elementary schools. Kids are left out. We need to learn to include everybody and just have fun.

  3. I think that kid has the right to feel sad. When teams are usually picked, I'm picked last so I can relate. I think also that just because he is not on a team that he should be able to protisapate as a reff or the anouncer. That was sad. Maybe he should just play something else. it was kind of like a poem. They were mean to not include him.

  4. I think this happens in Elementary schools too often. It makes kids feel sad and left out. I would feel awful if I was the kid who got picked last everytime. If the teachers would pick the teams we could avoid this, I think that some kids would make more friends if the teachers pick. If they are the ones who are picked last than they won't want to be friends with the other kids.

  5. I thought it was sad because that actually happens. Kids were being left out in elementry and they still are now. It was a good idea to make this video because it shows people how other people feel. After watching this video some people may realize how they make other people feel. They may change how they treat people.

  6. I think the video was very relatable. All kids have a fear of being 'left out' or rejected...and it's hard. It was a good way to show that even the little things you do can hurt someone deeply. Great job, kids!

  7. I thought that video was sad for the little boy that didn't get picked. I bet he felt bad about himself. But, if your friends don't pick you then you're probably not all that wonderful.

  8. I think its unfair for kids to be treated this way not just on this situation all around the world. Theres kids that get lef out as if they didnt even exist.

  9. Honestly, I don't think this is that big of a deal. As a kid, I was always the last to be picked, no matter what the sport. Sure, it hurts a little at first, but soon you get over it. It's just elementary school, nothing too serious. How good you are at elementary school playground games and how you are picked has no bearing on your later life.

  10. Kids everyday don't get picked for playground activities. Mostly because the other kids dont like them or they aren't any good at the game or activitie. And nobody wants a bad player on their team. So they just dont pick them and just leave them out of the game or activite. It hurts the kids feelings, and sometimes it makes the kid cry. And one of the reasons why kids start to pull away fom the other kids.
That's why you shopuld pick every kid even if they are not any good

  11. i thought that the video was silly. whats the point? if your friends dont pick you, then theyre not really your friends.

  12. I think that this video is very realistic because there are many situations like this. Some kids are discluded from activities because of there life styles or personalities. People should not shun or judge people in a rude manner.

  13. I thought it was pretty neat how they expressed their thoughts through voice and told what they were feeling. Sometimes we can all feel that way today or other days. But the one true thing that matters is your opinion counts so express it! Its nerve racking sitting and thinking if people are going to talk to you or if their going to notice your hair cut or what not. So don't just sit and cry get up and express your feelings or find new friends.

  14. My thoughts about it is thats its sad and that no one likes thats boy. He always gets his feelings hurt. He gets picked on and no one even cares. That he didn't even get picked for a team no one would pick him.

  15. I think that it is sad that the student was not chosen for a team. It seems very unfair that he was unable to join in the game with his peers. This video makes it easy to understand what it feels like to be left out. The description of the student's thoughts also let you know how someone with that problem would feel. Hopefully, this video will allow viewers to have empathy for those who are picked last for a playground game.

  17. Hi all! Thanks for your thoughtful comments! We decided to do this video AFTER we read the poem (it's be Lynn Huggins-Cooper). We envisioned picking teams, but somebody at the high school said the same thing happens in the cafeteria--either you get picked or you don't. Do you think there are other ways/situations to represent this poem?

Side note: The student who was not picked at all is actually our star soccer player. He's also a star actor and wanted to try a role he wasn't familiar with.

Thanks again for watching our video and for commenting so well. Great job all around!

  18. that vidio made me sad because the kid was not picked to play with them

  19. I think that it shows that people who get picked last or not picked at all feel like. Some people are alway's get picked or get to go first and don't know what others feel like. Others always get picked last or not at all. The person who gets picked last feels horrible because they don't know what they can do to get picked or to be liked more by those people.

  20. That is sad to leave someone out they should either make uneven teams or sub some oune in. It should not just be soneone by themselves. I know this is not always what happeneds but still it's crul. I like how this video shows the things that happen to children. That one person grow up to be a hurt person. Someone should have done something, it's just mean to do that. No one should be treated like that!

  21. the video was sort of depressing if you put yourself in the last boys position. He was picked last and I'm sure that made him feel terrible. To be picked last pretty much means, to me, that you are the least favorite of the group that you were picked from.

  22. It makes you feel sad when a situation like that happens to you. It feel as if you don't even exist in this world. At first, you feel confident and good, but than you feel all down and sad.

  23. i felt that it was sad to see someone not get picked out of a group. I dont think its fair to leave someone out.

  24. I completely understand the feeling of exclusion. it is possibly one of the worst feelings a child can have. I got past the feeling of exclusion by searching for people like me. In a short time I had earned myself friends, the perfect remedy for loneliness. my friends reasurred me that it mattered little of what people thought of me and the only opinion that was important is my own.

  25. Playground Plea made me think about how their is always someone who is left out or never picked for games. It made me feel sad for the little kid because he is never picked and he always has to sit out when it is obvious that the kids could take turns on who sits out or all they really have to do is find another player for the game so everyone is included.

  26. It really dawns on me that this is the wrong way to choose who is on your team. I never had to deal with being the last onw picked last or not at all but I find it very disappointing that we don't choose people just because they aren't popular or aren't good at the thing they are doing. Everyone should be allowed to play and be on a team no matter if you're not the best.

  27. That video made me think about how things were when I was in elementary school. I didn't really get the point to the vidoe. To me it just shows someone being upset because they weren't picked. I didn't get a message from it. In my oppinion that's life and you have to deal with it. You can't always be picked. I know it's sad but it's the truth.

  28. This video i thinj is very sad to watch its not fair to chose everyone else and just leave one kid out he was couldnt wait to be chosen and then they didnt. it was a sad video.

  29. I thought the video was sad.The little boy was so sad that he didn'tget choosen, but then agin it's the truth. Kids do that all the time. It makes the kid that got choosen last feel horrible like nobody liked him/her. He was probably wondering whats wrong with me? Why dont they like me? It really lowers a kids selfestem. If it were me i would feel bad too. feeling like nobody likes you or wants you on their team really hurts.

  30. it is sad how the other kids pick other kids over the little kid. And it is sad how the other kids only the kids that are there frinds.

  31. I think that the video made a really good point. It does hurt your feelings when you don't get picked. I didn't always get picked first and sometimes it made me sad.

  32. I thought this video was okay, and it could probably teach the importance of not leaving a person behind. I would feel the same way if I were in that l;ittle boys place. I liked how all the ESL kids cooperated in making this video. How they expressed there feelings when they the person talked. And last the use of there thoghut like "lips drying and Chest Tightning".

  33. I think its sad that the kid got shosen last. I also don't understand the title. The reason being is becasue the title says "Playground Plea". I thought it would be about the kids asking for a playground at their school. It instead was about a kid being picked last. It reminded me when I was a kid because I was always picked last. That is also how i felt when I was picked last.

  34. I thought it was sad that the little boy never got picked, that every time they had to pick it would never be him. I think they should have had the teacher or another student play so that each person was on a team and wasnt all alone(the little boy)

  35. i think noone should be left out becaoude thats not rite. Houw would you fill if someone of even your bestfriend did that to you? wouldent you fill left out like noone wants to hang around with you. Your fillings will be hurt. i know i would fill like that. its just like when i moved to a new school noone wanted to play with me and i would be alwas depres. i din't like the filling and i know you wouldent eather so dont do it. i thikn this video relly gets you thinking. its a good video and i think it gives you an exsample.

  36. Ello. Uhm... So does this video have anything to do with ESL? Kids are jerks these days by leaving other people out of activites. Being left out sucks. But that's just life.

  37. I feel sad for the little boy who got left out. As I was watching the video, I was wondering why the boy was not being chosen. There always has to be a person who will be chosen last, however, in this video the boy seemed to have something that the other kids did not want in their teams. Maybe he just was not good at sports. Everybody needs to learn to get along with everyone else because nobody in the entire world is better than everybody.

  38. I thought is was interesting video, it shows how omst kids feel when they are in a school yard draft. It could be used as a movational video to kids who aren't that good at sports to try harder so when everyone else plays they can play

  39. Maybe it was about being left out? I don't really know.

I think that every kid in the world should get the opptiney to play and tak to others.

  41. i thought that it was kinda sad. It's awful to always be picked last. It isn't the kid's fault. The video I think meant that someone always feels left out. The kid should get picked and be able to play with everyone else. The kid feels sad, depressed, and left out. He thinks that there is something wrong with him. No one should ever think or feel like that. Sometimes I feel the same way. That I'm not good enough to be apart of the game.

  42. Here are my thoughts about Playground Plea. Why didn't they pick him? Couldn't they played with 11 people? The kids were mean to him. Is something wrong with him? I have so many questions, but no answers. I thought it was a video that showed me alot about how kids can be ghurt if they are excluded from an activity.

  43. The video reminded me of EdCom because there was an elementary person that made a video really good. The visual effects and background music was great and made me think of Digital Applications/ Publications when I made digital projects.

  44. I really thought this video was interesting. I also liked it because I can relate to that by because I know what its like to not get picked in a sport. All in all I liked this video.

how dare they not pick Huandul! He's really good at socer. You know what that is, plian old judgemental behavior!!!! Just because he is short dosen't mean he can't play the game with them!

I was a little sad. Why didn't they choose that boy to play together, and make this boy be so sad. I think if they could choose that bot=y to play together, that boy will be so happy and excited. Although he isbn't good, but everyone want to stay in a group. That boy wanted too. A singel person will be so deplorable.

  47. It was a very discriptive video that really shows what goes on in normal students lives. In most cases there wasn't one student left who didn't play. Students don't always include everyone because ther not a friend or athletic in some way. It really shows the emotion that goes on during this process. I think almost everyone has been in this situation some time.

  48. The video was sad. I did not understand the video until the very end. I do think that the video is very relatable. Every kid in their lifetime will be left out of something. The video does show how kids can get hurt by playing team-sports during recess.

  49. I hope that you enjoyed all of the comments from my regular health classes. It is clear to see that everyone has strong feelings about "not being picked" and feeling left out. It is important to address your feelings in a healthy constructive way...so that you will be a happy healthy individual. The video was great to provoke thought and comments. Great Job Everyone!!!! I hope that you will make more and share them with Lakeview Middle School. Enjoy the summer! Mrs. Boyd

  53. Ivory,

I agree 100% with your comment. Many people may have gone through something like this at one time or another. Not only when playing sports in elementary school, but even in middle school. That was a great comment.
